World Association of Christian Communications (WACC)

WACC www.WACCglobal.org

The World Association for Christian Communication (WACC) helps organizations around the world gain deeper understanding of communication rights and issues. Therefore we were especially honoured to be entrusted with multimedia communications at their Communication is Peace Congress in South Africa. Highlights of the Congress included compelling addresses by such emissaries of peace as Bishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu.

We helped WACC identify a blog and YouTube channel as effective ways for people to "virtually" participate in the Congress. The same tools also enabled the 400 global participants to share its message more widely once they returned home. We also led a workshop on free editing tools to help participants begin creating multimedia messages themselves.

fluidIT solutions' founder, Carole St. Laurent, worked with Coady International Institute at St. Francis Xavier University to incorporate multimedia communications into their Communications for Development course. The instructional time was doubled to enable participants to explore the power of images, audio, and video to communicate messages more powerfully. Through case studies and intensive hands-on work, participants gained experience using free software and open source editing tools that are accessible for international organizations.

Social Media Workshop, Uganda

Social Media Workshop, Uganda

One of the biggest constraints for social activists is learning about new technologies that can support their work, and being trained how to use them. This is especially challenging in the developing world, where high Internet costs and a lack of personal computers limit how much time individuals can spend exploring new technologies on their own.

That's why fluidIT solutions partnered with eChange and the S7 Computer Training Centre in Kampala, Uganda, to offer a free Social Media workshop for emerging youth leaders. About a dozen energized youth got their first hands-on experience using skype, twitter, creating a blog, and recording audio stories. These practical tools can help them find and share information more easily, and participate more fully in the networked world.
