Let me introduce myself.
My name is Carole.

One of my strongest beliefs is that your quality of life should not depend on where you happen to have been born. But in fact, that matters a great deal. I was fortunate to have been born in Canada, to middle class parents who prized education, and encouraged me to pursue it. I believe the opportunities we have are also responsibilities to share them with others. There are so many ways one can give to others — through community service, responsible consumerism, environmental activism, art, and more. We all have to find our own ways.

My personal way includes working in Africa, helping rural communities to close the "digital divide" that their socio-economic situation has forced on them, and to help them access information. Beyond this, it is helping them to publish and share their own wisdom with a bigger community — whether that is one town sharing their solar cooking successes with a nearby town, or contributing to the global fight against HIV/AIDS.

On a more personal note, I love nature - watching sunsets, lightening, listening to rain... Sometimes I capture these moments in a photograph or video. I enjoy playing piano. That's not a portable instrument, so I want to learn how to play African drums in future travels. I like to write poetry about things that touch me deeply. I have been deeply touched by Africa, and that is why I am so passionate about working there.

Most specially, I like meeting people and "rubbing minds" with them. Thanks to my Nigerian friends who taught me this perfect phrase! They and other friends have enriched my life, and I am grateful.
